Pig roasts, wine tastings and nightly concerts take over 4th of July Weekend at the Brandywine Valley Big Bang BBQ.
Six wineries in the Brandywine Valley are offering events ranging from barbeques to live Jazz from noon to 5 p.m. on July 4, 5 and 6 and many with nighttime concerts afterwards.
First the food.
When BBQ is in the title, food is undoubtedly on the menu. The Penn Woods Winery’s Pig Roast is open July 4 and 5, while the Paradocx Vineyard offers fare from a “Mystery BBQ Chef.” Fat Cat Bar BQ sandwiches are available at Va La Vineyards, Tapas Chef Ed Mines serves Spanish cuisine at Kreutz Creek Vineyards on the 5th and 6th and Nick’s Chicks All-Season BBQ features ribs, chicken and pulled pork at Chaddsford Winery all weekend.
Now, the spirits.
Wine tasting aficionados should plan to visit Paradocx Vineyards new Flint Hill Tasting Room, Kreutz Vineyards for “Red, White and Blue” and Chaddsford Winery for cellar tours, tastings and “Sangria Slushies.”
Then, finish with some music and fun.
In addition to food and drink, there is a wealth of entertainment available all weekend long.
Here’s a taste: local singer/songwriter Mark Lancaster performs July 4 and 5 at Penn Woods. Paradocx offers various live musicians and hayrides of the 100-acre estate. Throughout the weekend, there is live Jazz at Va La with the Glenn E. Williams Trio, as well as an art show featuring Kathy Ruck’s “Watercolors: Landscapes and Florals” July 5 and 6. Jazz and blues fans can hear the duo Swing Set at Kreutz Creek on July 5 and 6 and Mike Wescott and Blues on Board at Chaddsford on July 6.
“Wheels in the Vineyard” is a free vintage car show at the Twin Brook Winery, noon - 5 p.m. on July 6 with Ragtime Willi performing 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Evening concerts will also take place with Junes Evans and Mercy City on July 5, 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Celebration Orchestra, 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

Kennett Square’s July Art Stroll
Stroll the downtown streets of Historic Kennett Square and enjoy refreshments, live music, dining and visits with artists for July’s Art Stroll, moved from the first Friday of the month to July 12, due to the 4th of July holiday weekend.
A Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, with live music by the Smokehouse Ramblers, free cake and tea ushers in the third anniversary of Sunrise Café at 127 E. State Street. The artistic talent of Kathleen Kreuzberger will be featured at Brush & Palette with an artist reception and light refreshments.
In addition, Longwood Art Gallery at 200 E. State St. will present Reflections of Hope, original acrylics by international artist Thamir Dawood, whose work has been exhibited throughout the Middle East , and was part of the Bridge of Hope Exhibit at the Delaware Art Museum recently. Art lovers can talk with Dawood over wine, light refreshments and live guitar music.
