If the kids are getting tired of the beach, the Riverfront Development Corporation might have the perfect cure for late-summer boredom.

The group is hosting its first Riverfront FamilyFest on Saturday, Aug. 21, featuring family-friendly attractions up and down the Wilmington Riverfront between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Here are five attractions not to miss if you’re planning to attend this free event:

1.The Amazing Riverfront Wilmington Race challenges families to collect clues, pick up markers and answer questions as fast as possible for a chance at a grand prize trip to New York City. More than 20 Riverfront locations are participating in the race, which requires pre-registration and a special pass before the noon start time.

2. Check out the latest back-to-school trends inside the Chase Center, which will host a variety of exhibitors. Also, the “Get Up and Move” stage provides entertainment and fitness fun for the kids, which might be a welcome distraction from all those pencils and books.

3. The DuPont Environmental Education Center is offering free nature walks at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., as well as a guided adventure into the marsh. The marsh trip costs $3 a person and departs at 2 p.m.

4. The kids can get free rein over a larger-than-life playground, complete with a 65-foot obstacle course, giant slide and the biggest moon bounce available, according to the festival’s Facebook page.

5. There will be plenty of live entertainment throughout the day, including performances by the Delaware Children’s Theatre, Makin’ Music and Imagination Players. The Delaware Children’s Museum will also host special entertainment, including storytime and a hands-on creative project.
