Thanks to a Brandywine Hundred company, millions of Americans will soon have a new reason to be shouting ridiculous sentences at their televisions.

You’ve Been Sentenced!, a board game produced by McNeill Designs for Brighter Minds, will be made into a nationally-televised game show by a Hollywood production group.

Board game players are dealt 10 pentagon-shaped cards each containing conjugations of funny words, famous names and familiar places that they use to build grammatically correct sentences. The show, to be produced by Parris-Randall Productions, will follow the same basic format, with players accumulating money for using different words in their sentences.

“It will be extremely hilarious to watch, but at the same time, the game is challenging,” said CEO Donald McNeill.

The show will also engage the home-viewing audience by letting people submit sentences online or by text message, McNeill said, and the best home sentence-makers will earn a spot on the show.

Like the Wheel of Fortune, viewers can play along at home, and like Hollywood Squares, the show will be truly funny.

Creating a game show from You’ve Been Sentenced! has been the company’s goal since the game launched in 2005, McNeill said. The firm recorded six episodes in 2006, that aired on channel 28. Parris-Randall Productions plans to start its production in four to six weeks and launch the show this fall, he said.

The Brandywine Hundred company has also begun working with local DJs to launch a drive-time version of the game for commuters.

“The game is taking off now,” he said. “I didn’t know it took five years to become an overnight success.”
