The prehistoric will soon be on display next to the pre-Raphaelite at the Delaware Art Museum.

The exhibit “Dinotopia: The Fantastical Art of James Gurney,” featuring more than 60 paintings by the author and illustrator, will be on view from Feb. 6 through May 16.

Dinotopia Family Day, Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., free with admission; enjoy family-friendly tours of the exhibition as well as hands-on activities and a lecture by Gurney at 1 p.m. followed by a book signing

Dinotopia Workshop with James Gurney, Feb. 7 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., $65 for guests, $55 for members; Gurney will guide participants through a presentation on water-soluble colored pencils, for teens and adults

“Dinotopia” is a four-book series that chronicles the adventures of Professor Arthur Denison and his son, Will, on Dinotopia, a mysterious lost island where dinosaurs and humans live in harmony.

During the exhibition, museum visitors are invited to pick up a free Dinotopia Journey Guide at the front desk and visit the resource room to learn more about Gurney and the world he created.
